Howard Melzer, General Manager – Howard grew up on a farm and has been an animal lover his entire life. His great-grandfather, grandfather, father and uncles were all exceptional livestock producers and earned countless county, state and national prizes for purebred horses, cattle and hogs. 

Howard is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and a former school teacher and small business owner.

Building and operating a boarding stable and riding facility has been a dream of Howard’s for the past ten years. But more than that, he is deeply committed to teaching young people the traditional aspects of herdsmanship and horsemanship.

Jim Melzer, Partner
– Jim is also passionate about animals and understands the emotional and physical power of the human-animal bond. 

Jim is an animal science and marketing graduate of the University of Minnesota and has worked with companies like Land O’Lakes, Cenex Harvest States, Pfizer Animal Health, Case-IH, DeKalb and NK Brand Seeds and Syngenta Crop Protection.

Jim has worked in big cities his entire life.  But this project has drawn him back to the farm and re-kindled his rural values and beliefs. 


Megan Melzer
, Youth Specialist – Megan is a recent graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  She is a certified kindergarten, elementary and elementary special education teacher.

While attending college, Megan worked at several day care centers, volunteered at a riding camp for handicapped children and was a counselor and instructor at the Hoofbeat Ridge Girl Scout Horse Camp near Madison, Wisconsin.

Megan loves children and understands how caring for a horse and riding can help young people build self-esteem and learn valuable lessons about responsibility, discipline and accomplishment.
